THE DIFFERENCE OF ONE

I am convinced that each of us matter.  That regardless of who we are or what we know, there is something that we can do which no one else can, at least not in our unique and special way. God has placed his imprint on us and alone means we matter, we count for something.

One of the more moving stories which illustrates how much difference we as individuals can make goes like this:

"An old man was walking along the beach. He noticed a younger man down by the water's edge who was picking up starfish and throwing them back into the ocean. Walking down to speak with him the old man asked why was he doing this. 'Because the starfish will die if left out in the sun, the young man replied.

But the beach goes on for miles and miles, said the old man, and there must be millions and millions of starfish.  What difference does it make?

With that the young man pick up another starfish and while throwing it back into the sea, said


"It makes all the difference to this one."

We are just one, but we are one.
